At Hot Pot Pottery we love making smoke-fired pieces. These are biscuit fired as normal but are re-fired in a metal dustbin with combustible materials and a reduced air flow to give unpredictable but beautiful results.
We love the unpredictability and the chance to use lots of local natural materials in the ‘burn’. The shapes often emulate ancient symbols and the patterns add to the ancient appearance.
These pieces are available in a range of shapes and sizes and we are always investigating new materials to achieve different finishes. We have also started making sculptural pieces such as the moon-gazing hares shown here.
