– 1 Day Wheel Throwing Workshops

Hot Pot Pottery HAS MOVED (just down the road). HOWEVER: as the new place is a large renovation project we will unfortunately be CLOSED while we do the work. We are hoping to RE-OPEN on Easter Weekend 2024.

We will have lots of new ideas & activities for you to try. So watch this space for details!

Dedicated Wheel Throwing Workshops

Our one day wheel throwing workshops are for those who want to really immerse themselves in throwing pots on the wheel.

Our class size is small (max. 6 people, min. 3 people) and you get your own wheel and workspace for the day, a home cooked 2 course lunch & refreshments throughout the day.

We spend most of the day throwing but we take time for lunch and later on to dry your favourite pots to ‘leather-hard’ so you can decorate them with coloured slip (liquid clay) before leaving them with us for glazing and firing.

Wheel throwing workshop

Our throwing workshops are suitable for complete beginners or those who have thrown before. They are not suitable for younger children due to the length of the day.

How Do I Know What To Do?

Our class sizes are small (max. 6 people), your teacher has many years experience teaching and we start each class with a full demonstration of throwing followed by lots of personal help. supervision and advice during the day.

Even though you may not feel like it when you arrive, by the time the afternoon session starts you will be ‘in the flow’ and starting to experiment with different shapes on the wheel (a bit taller a bit wider etc).

But if you want a little extra bit of instruction before the class, we have recorded a useful on-line ‘INTRODUCTION TO WHEEL THROWING’ video which may be helpful before you arrive.

Workshop Schedule

10.00-10.30 – arrive, introduction to the day, introductory throwing demonstration & a cuppa!

10.30-12.30 – throwing with lots of guidance, encouragement and help

12.30-1.30 – enjoy a home-made 2-course lunch (relax and take in what you have learnt)

What To Wear

NOT your best clothes, clay is messy but does wash out! We do provide aprons, towels and hand-wash facilities.

We advise taking off large rings and bracelets, trying long hair back and rolling up sleeves. Also, long fingernails are not helpful to you when working on the wheel!

Price & Payment

Our one day wheel throwing workshops cost £160.00 per person and include all teaching, clay, own wheel for the day (with a name!), slip decorating, lunch & refreshments, aprons and towels and leaving up to 6 favourite pots for glazing and firing.

Payment will be in advance on-line or over the phone card payment when you book your space. For any extra items that need to be paid on the day (extra pieces being left or pottery sales) we can take cash or card payment,

We usually fire every 5-6 weeks and if you are local you can collect your pots from us. However, if courier delivery is required this is £20.00 for pots to go on a fragile delivery to one mainland UK address. If you are a group then this is a shared cost.
