– 1 Day Wheel Throwing Workshops

COVID-19 Statement:

During the Covid-19 Pandemic we have closely followed Government and Leisure Industry advice to keep Covid-19 risks as low as possible on-site. CLICK HERE to see our current information.

Hot Pot Pottery is ON THE MOVE (just down the road). HOWEVER: we will be CLOSED for classes and activities until at least Sept 2022 due to renovations needed at the new place on both the studio and house.

Below is a taste of what we were offering and when we re-open we will have lots of new ideas & activities as well. So watch this space!

Dedicated Wheel Throwing Workshops

We run our one day dedicated wheel throwing workshops on a Sunday approximately once a month.

These are a whole day of throwing, decorating favourite pots with slip and a home-made lunch.

Wheel throwing workshop

They are suitable for complete beginners but not suitable for younger children. Individual advice & own wheel (with a name!) for the day. We have recorded a useful on-line ‘INTRODUCTION TO WHEEL THROWING’ video which you may want to watch before your class to get an idea what wheel throwing is all about.

Small class size (5 maximum, 3 minimum).

Workshop Schedule

10.00-10.30 – arrive, introduction to the day and introductory throwing demonstration

10.30-12.30 – preparing clay, throwing with lots of guidance, encouragement and help

12.30-1.30 – enjoy a home-made 3-course lunch (relax and take in what you have learnt)

1.30-3.00 – continue throwing on the wheel with help and encouragement

3.00-3.30 – wheel clean down

3.30 – 5.00 – choosing and drying favourite pots and decorating with slip (coloured liquid clay) & labelling ready for firing & glazing (by us) with clear glaze

Studio Layout

In our one day workshops you get your own wheel for the day and have your own work area.

We have five separate wheels and work areas (with everything you need for the class) so you won’t work with or share kit with someone you didn’t book with.

What To Wear

NOT your best clothes, clay is messy but does wash out! We do provide aprons, towels and hand-wash facilities.

We advise taking off large rings and bracelets, trying long hair back and rolling up sleeves. Also, long fingernails are not helpful to you when working on the wheel!

How To Know What To Do!

Our classes are a lot of fun, are designed for all levels of ability and are suitable for complete beginners.

We always start our classes with live demonstrations and we provide lots of help and advice throughout.

We have also recorded an ON-LINE VIDEO DEMO (INTRODUCTION TO WHEEL THROWING) for you to have a look at before your class. This will be helpful to you as our in-class demos are a little more difficult to see at the moment due to social distancing.

Price & Payment

Our one day wheel throwing workshops cost £150.00 per person and include all clay, own wheel for the day (with a name!), slip decorating, lunch & refreshments, all aprons and towels and leaving up to 6 favourite pots for clear glazing and firing and packing for collection/delivery.

Payment will be INTO OUR ACCOUNT IN ADVANCE. For any extra items that need to be paid for on the day (extra pieces being left or pottery sales) please bring CASH as we can no longer share card payment charges with customers & so try to minimise card payment. We hope you understand.

NB: Delivery will cost £18.00 for a box of pots to go to one mainland UK address if collection is not possible once pots are glazed & fired.
